Why re-post this knee jerk journalism.  Tommasini might as well be on the
payroll of the Met.  The Met is a good customer of the NY Times after all.
This Walkuere was a bore from start to finish -the protagonists looked
ridiculous and loudly sang the notes, but that's about all.  Levine had no
overall concept of the music -there were many too many flaccid moments.  The
direction (call it direction) and the production are truly awful.  The
costumes look like something from Saturday Night Live.  This is the sort of
opera performance that has been losing audiences for the Met however
enthusiastic old timers might be about it.
