THe HMV store at Tottenham Court Road, near Oxford Circus is a pretty good
one; the one in Birmingham Edgbaston (near to the city centre also has a
large and eclectic range. My favourite HMV store is in Manchester (just
off Piccadilly Gardens, in the dead centre of Manchester. MIND THE
TRAMS!) ;)

For a specialist opera (it does some other classical CDs and videos/DVDs)
shop, the MDC store, next door to the London Coliseum, the home of English
National Opera, just yards away from Nelson's Column, Trafalgar Square and
the Church of St Martin in the Fields, is hard to beat.
If you're prepared to spend time browsing, there are rare recordings at
reasonable prices. At the back of the main part of the store, there are
recordings released on "lesser" name labels, but excellent nonetheless.

Also, the Covent Garden Opera House Shop has a limited but good quallty
range of operas, as well as assorted memorabilia (Warning: it IS expensive)
