Today's NJ Star Ledger has an interesting review of Alagna &
Gheorghiu's new "Carmen" release. There is praise for the principals
and this teaser for the baritone.
<baritone Thomas Hampson offers, of all things, an intelligent and
sensitive bullfighter. >

On the same page one can find a review of the new "La Gioconda" release:

> no one is going to buy this recording to hear Violeta Urmana sing the
> title role. La Gioconda belongs to Maria Callas and nothing on the
> horizon will change that anytime soon

> and this amusing statement:
> the single reason to buy this recording is to hear the role of Enzo
> Grimaldo sung by Plácido Domingo. Having recorded this performance at
> the age of 61, Domingo easily sounds a couple of decades younger. It's
> enough to make one wonder if an opera of "The Picture of Dorian Gray"
> is in the tenor's future.

It is hoped that listers who acquire these recordings will weigh in on
them, soon.
