Hi listers,

....... nor is York, PA, a cultural Mecca. Still, Marilyn
Horne made the pilgrimage in stormy winter weather,
and Itzhak Perlman clearly enjoyed the audience contact
in a smaller theater.

We also had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Tatyana
Troyanos and Benita Valente as well as a number of other
artists in nearby Harrisburg, in Lancaster as well as at the
Hershey Theater.

If there have not been more appearances by such "names,"
I suspect that this is due less to their willingness to come to
smaller cities than it is the lack of funds and/or audiences,
especially in more recent years. PBS has not been of help
in stimulating the cultural scene, but what's new about that?

Marianne
