Preiser is about to release a compilation CD of Rise Stevens' solo
recordings. Perhaps, Dorothy Kirsten - whose RCA and Columbia recordings
also merit more thorough reissue on CD - will follow. Now that the Germans
and the Japanese own RCA and Columbia, isn't it fitting that a small
Austrian label is reissuing what Sony and BMG keep locked up in their
vaults? And what about Jennie Tourel, Helen Traubel and more Richard Tucker?
There is a large swath of our cultural history that has been passed over and
forgotten.
