My favorite young singers:
Tenor: Gregory Turay, whose brilliant singing in the tiny role of Lucia's
unfortunate groom lit up an otherwise dull Swenson LUCIA at the Met in '98.
Turay went on to win the Tucker Award and sings regularly in Chicago. Ms.
Bartoli should have accepted those Met SONNAMBULAs!! A stunning lyric
Dramatic Soprano: Andrea Gruber, whose unpolished but phenomenally powerful
sound drove a splendid Odabella in this season's ATTILA run at Lyric Opera
Chicago. Gruber then had a success as the "second-cast" Abigaille at the
Met. Rumor has it that she will perform Turandot at the Met in future
