Lynne and List--

There is another recording of this duet, whether Rossini's or no--that came
out at almost the same time as the Schwarzkopf-de los Angeles version. On
an RCA Victrola disc called "A Most Unusual Song Recital." Christa Ludwig
and Walter Berry, then still married, did an alternate take on the piece.
Whereas Mmes. S and dlA performed in character as cats, Ludwig and Berry
sang it as rival opera stars. The piece works splendidly either way.

When the Schwarzkopf/de los Angeles/Moore version came out, WCRB played it
here in Boston and got swamped with calls to repeat it. And on each
repetition, the calls flooded in again until the morning came that they
announced that they would not play the duet again.
Yes, it is that well done and, in particular, that funny!

It all means little, all the painting, sculpture, drawing, writing--or,
literature. It all has its place and nothing more.

An attempt is everything. How marvelous!
