        " Norma requires a
weight and density to the tone, especially in the middle of the
voice that
the lyric soprano does not have. "

This probably is true as to most 21st century listeners'
expectations. It's what we're used to hearing. But is there any indication
that Bellini expected such a weight and density? It would be like saying
Bellini expected a mezzo Algagesa. Did the modern mezzo even exist then?

        Just my 2 cents.

        regards,
        tom
